Milam & Greene Expands Texas Distillery

Milam & Greene Whiskey has completed a multi-million-dollar expansion of its distillery in Blanco, Texas, increasing production to more than 1,000 barrels per year. The expansion included new distilling equipment, a larger distillery footprint, new warehousing facilities, and an updated tasting room. The extension features a new 1,000-gallon Vendome copper pot still, new boilers, fermenters, and mash tuns. Milam & Greene Whiskey also distills whiskey at Kentucky’s Bardstown Bourbon Company using the same mash bill and yeast recipe. For the full article, click here.

KY House Passes Bill To Give Tax Break To Bourbon Industry

The Kentucky House has approved House Bill 5, which gradually lowers property tax for distilleries from 2026 to 2039. Supporters say the tax break is necessary to save jobs in a growing industry, while opponents argue that it could reduce revenue for county services, such as fire departments and sheriff's offices. Failure to provide this tax break may impact the flow of bourbon jobs and infrastructure throughout the state. For the full article, click here.

Pinhook Has Announced The Launch Of The Vertical Series Rye 7 Year

The Pinhook Vertical Series Rye 7 Year is a carefully crafted spirit that has been aged for seven years to achieve its distinct flavor profile. It's interesting that the only factor affecting the aroma and flavor of the spirit is the aging process, given that the mash bill, barrels, and fill dates are all the same across the releases. The blend of 28 barrels and the high proof of 105.12 certainly make it a unique and potentially bold choice for whiskey enthusiasts. The aromas of “caramel, orange zest, cedar, and clove,” followed by flavors of “chocolate, root beer, cardamom, and tobacco” sound like a complex and intriguing combination. It will be exciting to see how this latest release is received by whiskey aficionados. For more information, visit www.pinhookbourbon.com/products.

And there you have it, our roundup of the latest happenings in the bourbon and whiskey world. From exciting new releases to expansions and innovations, the industry continues to grow and evolve. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or a curious newcomer, there's always something new to discover and enjoy. Keep an eye out for these latest releases and developments, and stay tuned for more updates in the future. Cheers to a deliciously satisfying glass of bourbon or whiskey!

Fawn Weaver's Premium Whiskey Brand Honors the Legacy of Uncle Nearest, the Enslaved Man Who Pioneered Tennessee Whiskey

Courtesy of Uncle Nearest
Fawn Weaver started Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey in 2017 after learning about the story of Nearest Green, a formerly enslaved Black man who was a master distiller and whiskey trailblazer in the 1850s. Nearest taught Jack Daniel the process of distilling Tennessee whiskey, but his work was uncredited until recently. Weaver brought together 20 historians and experts to research Nearest's story and gathered thousands of original documents and artifacts. She interviewed nearly 100 descendants of Nearest and Jack Daniel and found that the best way to honor Nearest was by making whiskey.
Fawn Weaver and Victoria Eady Butler. Courtesy of Uncle Nearest
Weaver has an all-women leadership team and a 50 percent women-employed company. Victoria Eady Butler, a fifth generation descendant of Nearest, is the master blender and has been named Master Blender of the Year four times. Weaver aims to make Uncle Nearest the seventh spirit conglomerate and pass down a legacy of excellence for women and people of color leaders to follow. Uncle Nearest's first principle is "We do it with excellence or we don't do it at all." Read the full article HERE.

Cascade Moon Proves Quality Is Not Inherently Tied To Proof With Launch Of 15-Year Old Spirit

Cascade Moon 15 Year Old Emerges as One of the Only Available Barrel Proof Spirits Under 40% ABV

In a recent press release, Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. announced the release of Cascade Moon 15-Year Old Barrel Proof, which is launching in select U.S. markets this month.

The new Cascade Moon offering is a pleasant, sophisticated spirit that originally entered the barrel at 115 proof, where it was aged for 15 years in Cascade Hollow's single-story rickhouses. As a result of the curious conditions experienced by these barrels, the proof of the offering dropped to 79.8, below the minimum standard to be classified as a whisky.

Since the line's inception in 2020, the mission of the Cascade Moon Series has been to further conversations around the American whisky category while bringing consumers a variety of beautiful and small-batch liquids. As a surprise twist on barrel proof, this Cascade Moon release offers drinkers a unique tasting experience by bringing a barrel-proof spirit distilled by grain to consumers and providing an opportunity for more discussion around the relationship between proof and quality in the category.

Angel's Envy® Unveils $8.2 Million Brand Home Expansion And First Virtual Distillery In Decentraland

ANGEL'S ENVY, the Kentucky-based craft distiller that produces finished whiskeys, today unveiled its completed $8.2 million Brand Home expansion at 500 E. Main St. in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S. The expansion, which adds 13,000 square feet to the facility, will allow ANGEL'S ENVY to welcome an additional 64,000 visitors each year, doubling annual guest capacity. To celebrate, ANGEL'S ENVY, the super-premium whiskey owned by Bacardi Limited, is inviting fans to plan an in-person visit or experience the Brand Home virtually via the ANGEL'S ENVY Meta Distillery, the first-ever distillery experience in Decentraland. The ANGEL'S ENVY Meta Distillery – which includes a gamified and educational distillery production tour and bourbon-making experience, interactive cocktail challenge, Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP) token, non-fungible token (NFT) wearable giveaways, and more – will launch in Decentraland on June 14, National Bourbon Day, and remain open through June 20.

The expansion to the ANGEL'S ENVY Brand Home will create approximately 20 new jobs in Louisville and includes new spaces and experiences for guests, such as a larger retail area, five new tasting rooms, an additional bar space, event space, and full catering kitchen and a designated room for ANGEL'S ENVY's "Bottle Your Own" experience, which will now offer guests the chance to fill their own bottles of a distillery-exclusive Single Barrel offering. ANGEL'S ENVY worked with Joseph & Joseph, Contagious, and Sullivan & Cozart on the design and build for the expansion; construction began in late 2020. Visitors can now learn more about distillery experiences, book tours, and inquire about private events at angelsenvy.com/distillery.

With the launch of the ANGEL'S ENVY Meta Distillery, the super-premium bourbon brand becomes the first in the Bacardi portfolio of brands to create a Brand Home in the metaverse. Users (age 21+) are taken on a series of gamified experiences such as a mash bill challenge, cask personalization in the barreling room, and an ingredient quest to create cocktails. In addition, users have the opportunity to plant virtual white oak trees around the distillery, correlating to trees planted in real life through ANGEL'S ENVY's "Toast the Trees'' initiative – a program created in 2014 to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy white oak tree population to preserve the future of bourbon. ANGEL'S ENVY partnered with Terrazero Technologies Inc., a metaverse products and services technology firm and experience development studio, to create the ANGEL'S ENVY Meta Distillery.

Throughout the experience, which is easily accessible for first-time or established users of Decentraland, users will earn virtual badges, a POAP token, and free customized NFT wearables. Users within the U.S. will be able to purchase physical items from the ANGEL'S ENVY webshop and a metaverse cocktail delivered to their door via Cocktail Courier. They can also enter to win an ANGEL'S ENVY mixology kit. More information about how to access and engage with the experience can be found here.
