Bluegrass Bottling to Open 2nd Location in Lancaster

Lisa Strevels runs the Kentucky-based, woman-owned Bluegrass Bottling LLC. Strevels started the business at the beginning of 2020, and in less than three years, her business is already adding a new facility in Lancaster.

On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear’s office said that it will give $6.25 million towards Strevels’ expansion project, as part of the state’s $1.1 billion investment into the spirits industry, yielding 900 full-time jobs and more than 50 new-locations or expansion projects like Bluegrass Bottling.

Old Louisville Whiskey Co. Launches Batch #1, Opens Tasting Room

Old Louisville Whiskey, a new line of small batch whiskeys, launched in Kentucky in early August. Founded by Amine and Beth Karaoud, the Old Louisville Whiskey Co. has its roots in the historic neighborhood as the Karaouds funded the company with the sale of their Old Louisville rental properties. The Karaouds opened a tasting room and warehouse at 4427 Poplar Level Rd. which people can visit by appointment to select single barrels from their unique whiskey collection. In addition to the tasting room, whiskey fans can buy Old Louisville Whiskey, Batch #1, on shelves throughout Kentucky.

The Old Louisville portfolio will feature a variety of mashbills, each new release patiently aged in warehouses until the Karouds deem them ready. The first batch, which will retail at $149.99, was selected for its easy drinkability and crowd-pleasing flavor. It is a straight bourbon whiskey, aged 7-10 years and bottled at barrel proof – uncut, unfiltered. Future releases will include american whiskey aged 16 years and rye, and all releases will be limited (2,000 bottles or less).

Union Horse Enters American Single Malt Whiskey Market

After working on the recipe for seven years, Lenexa-based Union Horse Distilling Co. released a new year-round offering, an American Single Malt Whiskey called Rivalist.

Although the new spirit is made entirely of malted barley, Union Horse uses three different types: odyssey, chocolate and caramel. Rivalist is single-pot distilled, then aged in a combination of 20-, 25- and 53-gallon barrels that are blended. It’s bottled at 96 proof and has a suggested retail price of $59.99.

Rivalist is gaining wide distribution throughout the Kansas City area and currently is distributed throughout Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Colorado and Nebraska. It is scheduled to hit New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Georgia and Tennessee later. Man… guess I’ll have to wait to try this when it is finally released here in Tennessee.

O.H. Ingram River Aged Announces Fall Road Show

Brown Water Spirits LLC, the maker of O.H. Ingram River Aged, is proud to announce that it is embarking on a fall roadshow, visiting key markets, holding public events and spreading the word about the only whiskey aged in a floating barrelhouse on the Mississippi River.

During September, the team – led by Founder Hank Ingram – will be stopping in cities throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Public events include in-store tastings, the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and the Whiskey Wisconsin Festival, among others. Fans are asked to stay tuned for more details as September nears.

How Antiquated Three-tiered System Complicates Things

Bryan Clary and Zack Hiller, the co-owners of William Price Distilling Company, both figured the hardest times were behind them after they weathered a pandemic era opening, but an antiquated and convoluted state system involving distilleries, distributors and stores has meant navigating forward has been anything but simple.

Michter's Sole 2022 Release of 10 Year Rye Scheduled for July

Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye

LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- This July Michter's will ship its first and only 2022 bottling of 10 Year Rye. Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee commented, "Given that we're holding back our 10 Year Bourbon until 2023, I'm especially happy to be releasing our 10 Year Rye this summer. It's one of my very favorite releases."

When remarking on the 2022 release of the distiller's 10 Year Rye, Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco said, "It may be the only release we do of a 10 Year whiskey this year, but it's a really special one. At Michter's it's about never compromising on quality rather than maximizing sales." The suggested U.S. retail price per 750ml bottle of Michter's 10 Year Rye is $185.

Michter's 10 Year Rye is a single barrel product. It is a Kentucky style rye made from a fair amount of corn and barley to give balance and added complexity to the spice of its rye grain. "This year's Michter's 10 Year Rye continues to provide a consistent, rich and complex experience with beautiful spice and citrus surrounded by decadent chocolate, caramel and fruit. It is the exceptional balance of sweet and spice with a subtle hint of oak maturity that makes Michter's so special to those who appreciate a Kentucky style rye." observed Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson.

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of exceptional quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes rye, bourbon, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey. Currently all types of Michter's are being allocated because demand exceeds supply. In October 2021, Michter's was named the Most Admired American Whiskey in a survey conducted in 25 countries. In January 2022, Michter's was named the #1 Top Trending American Whiskey brand by Drinks International in their Annual Brands Report.

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 9, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson have approved the release of Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Rye. Shipment to distributors and importers begins this month.

Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is a single barrel product, and the average proof of the barrels in this March 2022 release is 111.6 proof. "Our barrel strength whiskey is always stunning, and this release continues to deliver a bold experience with layers of sweetness and spice along with gentle oak maturity," observed Wilson.

Michter's US*1 Limited Release Barrel Strength Rye

McKee commented, "At Michter's, we've put out some terrific Barrel Strength Rye over the years. Personally, I love this 2022 release for its richness, complexity and depth. It's a perfect representation of our Michter's house style."

"Dan and Andrea are our ultimate gatekeepers," stated Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "They've continued the tradition set by our late Master Distiller Willie Pratt and our Master Distiller Emerita Pam Heilmann of not releasing something unless they feel the whiskey is just right."

The suggested retail price in the United States is $100 for a 750ml bottle of Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Rye.
