Heaven Hill Distillery Announces Release Of 2024 Heaven Hill Heritage Collection


Heaven Hill Distillery has unveiled the Heaven Hill Heritage Collection 18-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey as part of its limited annual release. This 2024 edition, priced at $299.99 per 750 ml. bottle, features a bourbon whiskey mashbill of 78% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye, bottled at 120 proof. The whiskey, aged for 18 years in 133 barrels from December 2005, offers a nose of dried flowers and old oak, a palate with vanilla sweetness, old leather, and oak char, and a dry, spicy finish. The packaging includes detailed information, and the release is set to ship in early March 2024 on a national limited basis. Hard Truth Distilling Co. Announces The Release Of Its First Homemade Bourbons

Hard Truth Distilling Co. has announced the release of its first homemade bourbons, including Hard Truth Sweet Mash Bourbon, Hard Truth Sweet Mash Wheated Bourbon, and Hard Truth Sweet Mash Four Grain Bourbon. These bourbons join the brand's existing lineup. The Sweet Mash Bourbon has a mashbill of 73% corn, 19% rye, and 8% malted barley, bottled at 90 proof. Old Forester Names Assistant Master Distiller

Old Forester has appointed Caleb Trigo as Assistant Master Distiller, responsible for quality and innovation at the historic bourbon brand. Trigo will oversee quality control, distillery operations, provide technical leadership, and support brand advocacy efforts. Having been with parent company Brown-Forman since 2009, Trigo spent over five years as an operations leader at the Old Forester Distillery on Whiskey Row in Louisville. Trigo, who holds a Master's Degree in Distilling from Heriot-Watt University and a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Louisville, will work alongside Master Taster Melissa Rift to contribute to Old Forester's growth. He expressed honor in the role, aiming to learn from Master Distiller Chris Morris. Morris praised Trigo's skills and determination, predicting that he will contribute to leading Old Forester to new heights. Trigo, an avid traveler and foodie, resides in Louisville with his husband and favors an Old Forester Boulevardier cocktail.

Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked Returns As 2024 Winter Distillery Series

Woodford Reserve has released the highly-anticipated 2024 edition of its Double Double Oaked Bourbon, part of an annual series showcasing Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall's dedication to innovation. The bourbon, available in limited quantities at the Woodford Reserve Distillery, features a distinct flavor profile with tasting notes of burnt marshmallows, dried cherry, and bittersweet chocolate. New Whiskey Pays Tribute to Baseball’s Negro Leagues

The Negro National League, established in 1920 by Andrew “Rube” Foster during a time of racial segregation in American baseball, is being celebrated through a collaboration between the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and Kansas City distillery J. Rieger & Co. The Fielder’s Choice Collection consists of four new whiskeys, each representing a different Negro Leagues team with unique labels. A portion of the sales from the collection will benefit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. The whiskeys include a Kansas City whiskey, a small batch straight bourbon paying tribute to the St. Louis Stars, a 100-proof light whiskey honoring the Chicago American Giants, and a small batch 100-proof rye whiskey celebrating the Homestead Grays. Redwood Empire Announces Launch Of Its Small Lot Series

Redwood Empire, a Northern California distillery, has unveiled three new whiskeys as part of its Small Lot Series. Known for both sourcing and blending whiskey from various distilleries and producing its in-house distillate, the series showcases meticulous attention to detail. The releases include Foggy Burl Single Malt Whiskey, Devil’s Tower High Rye Bourbon, and Screaming Titan Wheated Bourbon. Foggy Burl, a blend of 27 casks of 100% malted barley, offers notes of dark chocolate and caramel at 94 proof. Devil’s Tower, a blend of 25 barrels with a mashbill of 51% corn, 45% rye, 2% wheat, and 2% malted barley, presents sweet and spicy notes at 99 proof. Screaming Titan, with at least 30% wheat in the mashbill, will be available in March and includes sourced whiskey in the blend. Uncork Me Wine Fest Returns

The Uncork Me Indiana wine festival is set to return to Military Park, Indianapolis, on June 22, 2024, from 2-7 p.m. The event, organized by Brothers Molloy Events, drew around 3,000 attendees and featured 30 Indiana wineries, meaderies, and cideries in its inaugural 2023 edition. New for 2024 is a VIP early access ticket offering privileges like a private shaded area, lounge furniture, temperature-controlled bathrooms, and a private Books Bourbon & Bacon and wine pairing. Participating establishments include Acres Away Winery, Chateau de Pique, Easley Winery, Mad Horn Meadery, Misbeehavin' Meads, and many more. The festival will also feature live entertainment, including music by DJ MaryJane, drag performances by Ana Crusis, and aerial performances by Suspended Animation Aerials. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, pretzel necklaces, and one factory-sealed water bottle per person. Welcome to Bourbon Barrel Blurbs! After another bout of my body and mind betraying me, I am happy to be back. Here, we explore the fascinating world of bourbon, whiskey, and other spirits. First Distillery In Surf City, NC

Andy and Amy Szwejbka are set to open Hidden Ships, Pender County's first distillery, in Triton Village in Surf City in September 2023. The distillery will produce gin, white rum, and vodka, while tequila and bourbon will be sourced initially. However, the distillery will lay down its first barrel of bourbon as soon as the permit is approved, which will take years before the first batch comes to market. Hidden Ships will have a production facility, a tasting room, and a bar, and will be focused on pre-Prohibition cocktails. The distillery's gin will have a juniper flavor with a botanical recipe that includes other flavors such as dogwood flower for Carolina flair. The 2,700-square-foot distillery will have a 20-foot bar as its centerpiece, with a speakeasy lounge area and indoor and outdoor seating for up to 70 people. The couple started a Kickstarter campaign with a $25,000 goal to fund the purchase of a chiller that could double Hidden Ships' production capacity, which will not stop the distillery from opening if the goal is not met. 5 New Bourbon Brands You Need to Know

Bourbon continues to be a popular spirit among whiskey enthusiasts, and new brands are constantly appearing in the market. Here are five new bourbon brands to try, all of which source their whiskey from reputable distilleries, but each with their unique features. Hand Barrel bourbon, distilled by Bardstown Bourbon Company, has a high-rye mashbill and comes in black and white bottles. High N’ Wicked Kentucky Straight Bourbon is produced using the sweet mash method, has a high rye content, and is aged for at least five years. Puncher’s Chance Bourbon is a limited-edition release made from a blend of five- to six-year-old bourbon and is finished in a rum cask. Frank August’s line includes a high-rye bourbon, a single-barrel bourbon, and a bourbon finished with toasted Japanese mizunara oak staves. Perpetual Whiskey Project has launched its premier New York Single Malt Whiskey after years of patience and dedication. The whiskey is a blend of straight whiskey that has been aged in ex-bourbon, sherry, and new American oak barrels, and features fruity esters, toffee notes, and a subtle touch of peat smokiness. Perpetual Whiskey Project used unique distillation methods, including an Italian column still, to create their single malt, which boasts a complexity and depth of flavor that rivals Scotch. Bluebird Distilling And Country Musician Jordan Davis Release Limited Edition Whiskey

A Chester County, Pennsylvania distillery, Bluebird Distilling, is expanding its distribution to 41 states following the success of its limited edition Bluebird Days Straight American Whiskey, created in partnership with country musician Jordan Davis. Founder Jared Adkins expects the move to increase sales by up to 20% and plans to add more products as national sales grow. The distillery, which already sells 14 products in over 250 stores across Pennsylvania, also plans to launch an e-commerce site for the coffee products from Char & Stave, its sister cafe and cocktail bar concept. Eric LeGrand Creates New Bourbon Brand To Help Support Those Who Are Paralyzed

Eric LeGrand, former Rutgers University football player, author, sports analyst, business owner, and advocate for those with paralysis, has launched Eric LeGrand Kentucky Straight Bourbon. The 750-milliliter bottles, priced at $45, will be distributed by Allied Beverage Group to New Jersey liquor stores and will also be available on ericlegrandwhiskey.com. LeGrand, who sustained a spinal cord injury in 2010, has fought against his own prognosis to regain movement in his shoulders. He co-founded the whiskey with Brian Axelrod and vowed to donate $5.20 of every bourbon case sold to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. LeGrand and his team have donated close to $2m to the foundation, which works to advance research on finding the cure for spinal cord injuries and improving quality of life for individuals and families. Jim Beam, in partnership with The Boston Beer Company, has launched Jim Beam Kentucky Coolers, a range of ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktails in four flavors: Strawberry Punch, Black Cherry Lemonade, Sweet Tea Lemonade, and Citrus Punch. The Kentucky Coolers aims to provide consumers with full-flavored RTD beverages with a lighter profile and a smooth finish. With only 120 calories per serving, the Kentucky Coolers can be served chilled and shared with others. Distilling has traditionally been a male-dominated profession, discouraging women from participating. Bessie Williamson was the first known woman to own and run a distillery in 1944. However, women like Lorena Vasquez, Joy Spence, and Jassil Villanueva Quintana have helped push the industry into the 21st century, resulting in more women working at distilleries, opening their own, and starting their brands. Woodford Reserve And Kentucky Derby Museum Are Dropping An Ultra-Limited Bourbon

It seems that the Kentucky Derby season is in full swing, with special bourbon releases coming out leading up to the main event on May 6. The latest is two batches of special Woodford Reserve bourbon, which is available exclusively from the Kentucky Derby Museum. The Secretariat Bourbon Box Set was released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Secretariat winning the Triple Crown. There are only 400 box sets available, and while they will go on sale to the public in the coming weeks, there’s still time to enter the lottery to win a chance to purchase one of two box sets, each numbered #73 to celebrate Secretariat’s victory year. Uncle Nearest Takes Top Honors At 2023 Los Angeles Invitational Wine & Spirits Challenge

The Los Angeles Invitational Wine & Spirits Challenge is an annual competition that aims to highlight the best wine and spirits producers in the world and introduce those producers to the largest market of consumers in the United States. The judging for the competition took place on February 21-22, 2023, and attracted close to 1,100 entries.

The Best of the Best winners were a Pinot Noir from Russian River Vineyards (Sonoma County, Calif.) and a Rye Whiskey from Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey (Shelbyville, Tenn.). The Russian River Vineyards’ 2018 Austin Vineyard Pinot Noir was described as "Age worthy," "complex," "very round with great acidity," "full-bodied" and "savory" and earned 99 points and a Double Gold rating. The Uncle Nearest Uncut and Unfiltered Straight Rye Whiskey was described as having "leathery," "earthy," and "Moose Lodge-class old-style rye" characteristics, and was awarded Best of the Best honors in the spirits sweepstakes entries. Cooper's Daughter Spirits is a distillery and cooperage in Claverack, New York. It was founded in 2015 by Stuart and Sophie Newsome and produces a wide range of spirits, including bourbon, whiskey, vodka, and liqueurs. The distillery's buildings are located on a 1.5-acre property, which came with a restored farmhouse and two other buildings. One of the buildings was renovated by Stuart to serve as a distillery and cooperage, while the other building, built in 1790, was refurbished and is now used as a rickhouse for aging bourbon and an indoor café. The property was originally part of the Jacob Rutsen Van Rensselaer House and Mill complex, and the current owners also own a 50-year-old apple orchard in Red Hook. Cooper's Daughter plans to use its own apples to make vodka in the coming years. The grains, fruits, botanicals, and tree syrups used to flavor their seasonal spirits are either grown on their own property or procured from nearby farms. The Cocktail Garden is an outdoor space where people can enjoy a drink and has several outdoor spaces, including a wood-framed tent and a blazing steel fire pit. Kentucky Bourbon Trail Sets Attendance Record in 2022

Garrison Brothers Releases 2023 Guadalupe Ultra-Premium Port Cask Finished Bourbon

Garrison Brothers Distillery, the first legal whiskey distillery in Texas, has released Guadalupe 2023, a limited edition port-cask finished bourbon named after a river in the state. This special expression has won multiple awards and is bottled at 107 proof. Each step of the production process is made by hand by the Master Distiller and his team. Guadalupe is a creamy dessert bourbon with flavor notes of fruit, chocolate, and honey. The story of Guadalupe began in 2015 when the distillery teamed up with Texan winemakers. Former Councilman Takes a Shot at Making Bourbon

Mark Kersey, a former San Diego councilman, has transitioned into the alcohol industry by becoming the CEO of Cask & Coast Spirits Co. His company produces a California bourbon, which is made from a four-grain bourbon distilled in the Midwest and matured in charred American oak casks. The bourbon is then finished in Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc wine barrels from Montaño’s vineyard. Kersey and Montaño work with distillery partners to import ingredients from the Midwest and blend it in California. Cask & Coast’s initial 750-bottle release debuted in November and received a gold medal in a San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge with a 91 rating. The company's biggest market is online, but it is also available in local stores and restaurants. The former mayor, Jerry Sanders, thinks the bourbon is excellent and is grateful for a new industry to attract tourism to San Diego.  Heads May Roll in Oregon Agency Due to Love for Rare Bourbon

The executive director and several top officials of the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission face the possibility of losing their jobs due to their thirst for rare bottles of bourbon. An internal investigation found that they had used their knowledge and connections at the agency to obtain high-end whiskeys, such as Pappy Van Winkle's 23-year-old whiskey, for their own use, which violated state statutes that prohibit public officials from using confidential information for personal gain. In response, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek has asked the agency's board of commissioners to remove the implicated individuals and has requested an independent civil investigation by the attorney general to determine the extent of any wrongdoing and to recommend stronger protocols for ethics compliance. Woodford Reserve Releases Winter 2022 Master’s Collection

Woodford Reserve has released its 2022 Master's Collection, called the Historic Barrel Entry. This bourbon was made with newly distilled whiskey that entered the barrel at 100 proof, which was the standard for barrel entry proof in the 19th century. Today, the standard is 125 proof. The lower entry proof, which results in a greater amount of water in the barrel, contributes to richer and sweeter flavors from the barrel's red layer. The aroma is a mixture of vanilla bean, dried apple, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon and a hint of cocoa, with notes of roasted coffee, hazelnut, dark cherry, plum and spearmint. The taste is a balance of toasted oak and overripe banana with hints of cooked berry fruits, leather, coffee and baking spices, before ending with a finish of charred oak, leather, and orange oil. This limited-edition release is the 18th in the Master's Collection series, which began in 2004, and will be available in select U.S. and global markets at a suggested retail price of $129.99 for a 700 ml bottle. Memphis’s First Modern Whiskey Is Crafted by Tennessee’s First Female Master Distiller

Old Dominick Distillery in Memphis was started after two of Domenico Canale's great great grandsons discovered an unopened bottle of Old Dominick whiskey. Old Dominick Straight Tennessee Whiskey was the first whiskey distilled, aged, and bottled in Memphis since Prohibition. The master distiller of the whiskey is Alex Castle, the first known female master distiller in Tennessee history. Castle grew up in Kentucky and was set to become a marine biologist until a high school science class changed her career path to chemical engineering. She received a crash course in operating pot stills and eventually landed a job at Wild Turkey as a production supervisor. She was then hired to start a distillery in Memphis and was given free rein to design the production space. Castle blended bourbons from other distillers into the first bottles to bear the Old Dominick label in a century, and all involved had to wait for the first juice distilled on site to mature. Castle's whiskey is Tennessee Straight Whiskey and is sold only in Memphis, but will be available in Arkansas, Missouri, and the rest of Tennessee by spring. For the full story, click HERE.

Yellowstone American Single Malt Whiskey Launches This Spring

Yellowstone American Single Malt Whiskey is the latest offering from Limestone Branch Distillery Master Distiller Stephen Beam. This whiskey will be available in March at a retail price of $54.99. It is a four-year-old whiskey bottled at 108 proof (54% ABV) with a 100% barley malt mash bill. It has a unique taste profile compared to its sister product, Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, with notes of cereal malt, honey, peach blossom, stone fruit, oak, cinnamon, and English walnuts. The packaging features a design-forward label with the iconic Lower Falls artwork and blue top-wrap to differentiate it from other Yellowstone variants. The brand supports the National Parks Conservation Association, having donated nearly $370,000 to the organization so far. Limestone Branch Distillery was opened in 2011 by Stephen Beam, a seventh-generation distiller with a family history of distillation. It is home to several spirits, including Yellowstone Select, Yellowstone American Single Malt Whiskey, Yellowstone Limited Edition, Minor Case Rye Whiskey, and Bowling & Burch Gin. Buffalo Trace Distillery Unveils New Still House That Will 'Double Production'

Buffalo Trace Distillery has officially commissioned a new still which is 40 feet tall and capable of producing 60,000 gallons per day. This allows the distillery to double its production of whiskey. The new stillhouse is adjacent to the existing one and is designed to match the existing still to maintain consistency in the whiskey produced. The new still is part of a larger $1.2 billion expansion project which includes new cookers, fermenters, and a new dry house that can produce 12,000 pounds of dried grain per hour. Visitors can see the new stillhouse on Buffalo Trace's new "Hard Hat Tour" which includes expanded tour routes and new sites. The bourbon industry invested over $2.1 billion in the state of Kentucky last year, with many distillers upgrading their facilities and equipment. 15 Underrated Bourbons You Need To Buy

Robb Report Reviews A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength Bourbon

A. Smith Bowman introduces their Cask Strength Bourbon Batch #2, a whiskey bottled at 144.5 proof, which is considered a "hazmat" whiskey with a high alcohol content of nearly 70%. Despite its high alcohol content, this particular whiskey is said to have a delicious flavor, with notes of cherry, apple pie, cinnamon, chocolate, dried orange, milk chocolate, candied pecan, vanilla, and underlying spice and heat. The whiskey's high proof is attributed to the hot and humid climate in Virginia, where the whiskey was aged, which resulted in more water evaporation and less alcohol loss. Bluegrass Distillers Breaks Ground on Major Expansion

Bluegrass Distillers, a craft spirits distillery based in Lexington, KY, is building a new distillery in Midway, KY at Elkwood Farm. The $8 million investment will include a 36” column still, six 18,000-gallon fermentation tanks, offices, labs, tasting and event space, and a bottling line. The facility will have a production capacity increase of over 100 times to meet the demand for its award-winning bourbons. The former primary residence at Elkwood Farm will serve as a visitor center, gift shop, and cocktail lounge. The distillery will also be growing grains for its bourbon on the property. Bluegrass is celebrating this milestone by releasing Elkwood Reserve, a 9-year single-barrel bourbon whiskey, which will be available at their Lexington gift shop. The distillery is set to open in Fall 2023 and will offer a grain-to-glass experience for visitors. Heaven Hill’s Latest Limited Release Will Have Bourbon Nerds Clamoring for Corn Whiskey

Heaven Hill is releasing a 20-year-old corn whiskey as part of its Heritage Collection. This is the second release in the collection, which highlights one of the distillery's six mashbills. The whiskey is 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye and was distilled in 2002 and aged in used bourbon barrels. The whiskey is bottled at 115 proof and comes with a special box and information about the mashbill, warehouse location, and production date. Horse Neck Kentucky Bourbon RTDs Launch in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana

Firsty Thursday, LLC has launched its new beverage brand "Horse Neck" which features a premium ready-to-drink (RTD) spirit-based canned cocktail made with Kentucky Straight Bourbon in four unique flavors: Bourbon Ginger Ale, Bourbon Cherry Rye, Bourbon La Paloma, and Bourbon Mule Spice. The drinks are made with real juice, natural ingredients, and have 9% ABV. The brand will begin distribution in Texas in late February and will expand to additional states later in the year with a focus on Arkansas, California, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Woodford Reserve Names Elizabeth McCall Master Distiller

Elizabeth McCall has been named as the third Master Distiller in the 26-year history of the bourbon brand Woodford Reserve. She will oversee quality and innovation and bring new products to market. McCall has been training for this role for over a decade and has been a part of the Woodford Reserve's parent company, Brown-Forman, since 2009. Chris Morris, the previous Master Distiller, will assume the role of Master Distiller Emeritus. Breckenridge Distillery Celebrates Valentine’s Day with Third Edition of Sexy Motor Oil Whiskey

Breckenridge Distillery and Breckenridge Brewery have announced the release of their limited edition Sexy Motor Oil whiskey aged in beer barrels for 10-13 months. This year's edition of Sexy Motor Oil will have tropical banana and apple flavors over a layer of dark chocolate, caramel, and honey, and will be available at Breckenridge Distillery and Tasting Room in Breckenridge, Colorado starting February 10, 2023. Breckenridge Distillery and Breckenridge Brewery are known for their barrel exchange programs and previous releases include the Imperial Stout Cask Finished Whiskey and Whiskey-Barrel Aged Oatmeal Stout Beer. Heaven Hill distillery has announced a new barrel-proof version of its Bernheim straight wheat whiskey, which is made from 51% winter wheat, 37% corn, and 12% malted barley. It is aged between 7 and 9 years and bottled at 118.8 proof. The whiskey will be released in two batches per year and will have a starting price of $64.99. It is a less common type of whiskey compared to bourbon or rye and only a few distilleries have a straight wheat whiskey in their lineup. Fawn Weaver's Premium Whiskey Brand Honors the Legacy of Uncle Nearest, the Enslaved Man Who Pioneered Tennessee Whiskey

Fawn Weaver started Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey in 2017 after learning about the story of Nearest Green, a formerly enslaved Black man who was a master distiller and whiskey trailblazer in the 1850s. Nearest taught Jack Daniel the process of distilling Tennessee whiskey, but his work was uncredited until recently. Weaver brought together 20 historians and experts to research Nearest's story and gathered thousands of original documents and artifacts. She interviewed nearly 100 descendants of Nearest and Jack Daniel and found that the best way to honor Nearest was by making whiskey.

Weaver has an all-women leadership team and a 50 percent women-employed company. Victoria Eady Butler, a fifth generation descendant of Nearest, is the master blender and has been named Master Blender of the Year four times. Weaver aims to make Uncle Nearest the seventh spirit conglomerate and pass down a legacy of excellence for women and people of color leaders to follow.
