Five New Wheated Bourbons To Try
Corn is the primary ingredient in bourbon whiskey, and the remaining recipe typically includes a small amount of malted barley and either rye or wheat as a flavoring grain. Wheat is used in some bourbons, like Buffalo Trace's Van Winkle and Weller lines, as well as Maker's Mark and Heaven Hill's Old Fitzgerald. Wheat tends to soften the whiskey's rough edges and develop sweeter, more subtle flavors over time. More distilleries are exploring wheat's potential, resulting in new wheated bourbons like Buffalo Trace's Daniel Weller Emmer Wheat, Green River Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon, Forbidden Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey, Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series: BEP, and Garrison Brothers Lady Bird. Each brings unique characteristics to the table, showcasing wheat's versatility in bourbon production. For the full article, click HERE.

NJ Distillery Offering Single Malt Whisky To Central Jersey
Bellemara, a distillery co-owned by Camden Winkelstein and his wife Christina, opened in 2021 but initially lacked ready whisky. Instead, they offered vodka and gin. However, after patiently waiting for their malted barley barrels to mature, their single malt whisky is now available. Winkelstein, inspired by his upbringing in Scotland, appreciates the scientific process and time required to create high-quality whisky. Bellemara, located in Hillsborough, New Jersey, specializes in producing exceptional honey-colored American Whisky. Reservations to sample their 121-proof whisky can be made online. Although New Jersey has a long history of distilling spirits, including the oldest distillery in the country, Laird and Company, Bellemara stands out as the sole producer of single malt whisky in the state.
